“I Can Do Croquet,” Says Prescott 28 May 2006

Prescott at Work

Above is a picture from the Mail on Sunday showing our beloved Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, hard at work…on his croquet lawn. After his scandal he lost his department, but not his salary and government grace & favour houses. You can see more by clicking here.

But despite the fact I hate how he retains his full salary and perks despite not having a job, I am relieved he is no longer in charge of planning. One of the first things he did in government was go over the objections of English Heritage among others and demolish the grade-II listed Baltic Exchange (below left), constructing instead the Gherkin Tower (below right) which is today mostly empty and could have been built elsewhere. It remains to be seen what Ruth Kelly will do now she is in charge of the Department of Vandalism, Destruction and Concrete.
